Windows upgrade buying decisions
Windows 11 upgrade or a new PC? Check eligibility before the festive purchase
Check your exact CPU, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot capability before replacing a Windows 10 PC. Understand consumer ESU, then budget for your actual games and apps.

Before adding a new motherboard or a complete PC to your festive-sale shortlist, check what your current machine actually needs. A Windows upgrade, an application upgrade and a hardware replacement can have different reasons. Write down the problem first: unsupported operating system, insufficient performance, unreliable hardware or a feature you need.
Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival announcement gives 8 October 2026 as the all-customer opening date. That is a shopping occasion, not evidence that replacing your PC is necessary or that a particular part is discounted. Amazon India’s announcement
Start with the eligibility result
On an existing Windows 10 PC, use Microsoft’s current PC Health Check app and select Check now. Read the reason it gives for eligibility or failure, then save the result with the date. Microsoft says the app explains why a device does or does not qualify. Microsoft’s PC Health Check guide
Microsoft notes that PC Health Check does not check the graphics card or display, so read the full requirements too. Microsoft’s specifications
Alongside that result, record the full CPU name and your motherboard or complete-PC model. Keep the failure message in its own field. “It is an old PC” is a less useful diagnosis than a named requirement that has not been met.
If the PC qualifies, investigate the supported upgrade path before buying replacement parts. If it fails, use the exact reason to decide what to check next. Do not turn one failed check into an assumption that every component needs replacing.
Separate a setting from missing hardware support
Windows 11’s requirements include a compatible processor, TPM 2.0, and UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability. The processor requirement is more specific than just having enough cores or a high clock speed. Read the complete current specification; these three checks are not the whole list. Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements
Microsoft also explains that some TPM-capable PCs have the feature disabled. A missing-TPM message therefore needs investigation before a purchase. Its guide recommends manufacturer-specific support information when the firmware details are unfamiliar. Microsoft’s TPM guidance
Ask the PC or motherboard manufacturer about your exact model and the reported condition. Keep this initial check read-only: do not buy a separate TPM module on the strength of a generic error, or change unfamiliar firmware settings while following a shopping article. A motherboard replacement also needs its own compatibility review; this article does not certify any CPU-and-board combination.
Decide whether the PC meets your workload
Operating-system eligibility answers one question. Your games, editing software, peripherals and everyday workload answer others.
Microsoft lists 4GB RAM and a 64GB or larger storage device among Windows 11’s installation minimums. Microsoft’s current specification Those figures should not become the memory and SSD targets for a gaming build. Choose capacity from the requirements of the applications you actually use, the files you keep and the space you want available.
For each planned application or game, keep its current publisher requirements beside your parts list. Record what feels inadequate on your present PC: running out of space, difficulty with a particular task, or performance below the experience you want. That makes the upgrade goal concrete without inventing a universal specification.
For a replacement system, confirm the supported Windows version and drivers for your essential peripherals and software before ordering. Keep any unresolved item visible in the budget rather than treating a familiar connector or product family as proof.
Understand what consumer ESU covers
Microsoft’s current India guidance says ordinary Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025. It lists consumer Extended Security Updates for eligible personal-use Windows 10 22H2 devices through 12 October 2027. ESU supplies critical and important security updates; it does not restore new features or general Windows 10 technical support. Organisation-managed devices need their applicable programme checked separately. Microsoft India’s support and ESU guidance
Check your own enrollment and eligibility through Microsoft’s consumer ESU instructions. Simply continuing to use Windows 10 does not establish ESU coverage. We have not quoted an Indian enrollment price or assessed your device’s eligibility.
Treat a verified enrollment as time to plan the transition, while keeping application support and hardware needs under review. It is not evidence that an aging machine will run a new game well.
Turn the result into a purchase decision
Make a short decision note: the eligibility result, the unresolved manufacturer question, the workload you want to improve and the complete cost of the proposed change. Then compare that change with keeping the current PC or replacing the system.
